Find In Tabs is a Firefox Extension.

You can download it from the Firefox Add-Ons site.

This extension allows you to perform a search in all your open tabs at the same time.

To perform a search, just click Ctrl + F on your keyboard to bring up the search bar. In this example, I have two open tabs and will search for the term “Firefox.”

After typing “Firefox” into the search box, I click on “Find In Tabs”:

This will search for the term “Firefox” in all open tabs. Below you can see the results. The Tab # is shown, and the location of the term “Firefox” is highlighted in yellow:

Clicking on a search result will take me to that particular Tab, as well as the location of the term on the page.

Searchload Options is a Firefox Extension.

You can download it from the Firefox Add-Ons site.

Searchload Options allows you to tweak the searchbar’s behavior.

To access the tweaks, just left-click on the searchbar icon, and choose “Search Options”:

The Search Options window will open:

From here, you can:

• Clear the searchbar after a specified period of time;
• Reset the search engine after a specified period of time;
• Choose the type of tab the search result will open in.

Organize Search Engines is a Firefox Extension.

You can download it from the developer’s website or the Firefox Add-Ons site.

This extension is primarily for power users who have lots of different search engines in their Search Bar. You can use this extension to add folders and separators to your search engines list.

Below is a typical search engines list:

After installing this extension, click on “Manage Search Engines” in the drop-down menu. The following window will appear:

From here you can add Folders and Separators. I’m going to add one of each, and then drag-n-drop the relevant search engines into the folder:

When finished, this is what the search engines list looks like:

If you’ve got a long list of search engines, this extension will definitely help you organize them better and save you valuable time.

Add to Search Bar is a Firefox Extension.

This extension provides an easy way to add search engines to your Search Bar.

Let’s say you’d like to add Microsoft’s Live Search. You would first go to the Live Search website: http://www.live.com.

Then you would right-click on the search field and choose “Add to Search Bar”:

You’ll be asked to confirm your decision.

Just click “OK”:

That’s it!

Live Search has been added to your Search Bar:

By default, when you enter a term into the Search Bar, a list of suggestions will be displayed below it:

You can disable the suggestions.

First Right-Click inside the search box.

Then click “Show Suggestions”:

The next time you enter a term into the search box, you’ll notice that the suggestions will not appear:

For example, let’s say you want to search for the term “Firefox.”

You would start by going to the top of your browser and clicking Edit > Find in This Page:

You can also type Ctrl+F on your keyboard.

In either case, the following will appear at the bottom of your browser window:

This is where you will type in your search term.

In our example, we’re looking for the term “Firefox”:

The search term will be highlighted on your browser page:

Clicking the “Next” button will take you to the next time “Firefox” is mentioned. The “Previous” button takes you back.

Clicking the “Highlight All” button…

…will highlight every instance of the term “Firefox” on the page:

By default, it doesn’t matter if you type “Firefox” or “firefox.” If you’re concerned with matching the exact case, click the box labeled “Match case.”

You have the ability to add to this list; and your choices number in the thousands!

Start by clicking on the icon located on the left of your Search Bar:

Click on “Manage Search Engines…”:

The “Manage Search Engine List” window will appear.

Click on “Get more search engines…”:

A Firefox Add-Ons web page will open up. In the middle of this page, there is a list of the more popular search engine plug-ins.

To install one of these, you would simply click on the provided hyperlink. For example, let’s say you want to install Amazon’s A9 search engine plug-in. You would click on the A9 hyperlink:

The “Add Search Engine” window will appear.

Click the “Add” button.

If you want to start using this plug-in right away, click on the box labeled “Start using right away.”

When you return to your Search Bar, you’ll notice that the A9 search plug-in has been added to the list:

Those are the basics…

But there’s more!

Go back to the Firefox Add-Ons website and scroll down to the bottom of the page. You’ll see a section called “Additional Resources.”

Click on the mycroft.mozdev.org link:

You will be taken to the Mozdev.org website, which contains just about any search plug-in that you can think of.

Near the top of the page, you find the section called “Find Search Engine Plugins / Search Providers.” Here you can type in the URL of a website, and it will search for any plug-ins for that specific site.

But I’d like to point you to the “Advanced Search” link. Click on it:

When the Advanced Search page appears, scroll down to Browse the categories:

As you can see, there are literally thousands of search engine plug-ins to choose from.

Let’s say that you want to set up a keyword for Google search.

First, you would go to the Google homepage.

Then, you would right-click on the Google search box and choose “Add a Keyword for this search…”:

The “Add Bookmark” window will appear.

We’ll name this keyword search “Google Keyword” and assign the letter “g” as the keyword:

Click “Ok” and you’re ready to search Google from your Firefox Location Bar.

Let’s say that you want to search for the term  ”CyberNet News” on Google.

To do so, you would go to the Firefox Location Bar and type the keyword followed by the search term.

In this case, the Keyword is “g” and the search term is “CyberNet News”:

Hit “Enter” on your keyboard, and the Google search results for “CyberNet News” will appear:

You can set up keywords for any site that contains a search box.

Just right-click on the search box and follow the instructions outlined above.

Search Engine Plug-Ins can be removed by taking the following steps:

First, go to the Search Bar and click on the icon located to the left of it:

Next, click “Manage Search Engines…”:

The “Manage Search Engine List” window will appear:

Highlight the search engine plug-in that you wish to remove by clicking on it.

In our example, we will remove the Creative Commons plug-in.

After highlighting the plug-in that you wish to remove, click the “Remove” button:

The plug-in will immediately disappear from the list.

Click the “OK” button and you are finished.

Well, you can.

You can rearrange the order of your search engines.

Start by clicking on the Google icon located to the left of the Search Bar:

Then click “Manage Search Engines…”:

The “Manage Search Engine List” window will appear:

Let’s say you’d like to move the eBay search engine to the second spot on the list:

You would first highlight the eBay search engine by clicking on it.

Next, you would click the “Move Up” button until eBay is in the second spot:

Obviously, if you wanted to move one of your other search engines down, you would click the “Move Down” button.

Once you are satisfied with the order of your search engines, just click the “OK” button to finish:

When you head back to the Search Bar at the top of your browser, you’ll notice quicker access to the eBay search engine:

This is what it looks like:

The Search Bar gives you easy access to your favorite search engines.

Just type in the term that you’d like to search for and click on the magnifying glass icon.

You can also hit the “Enter” button on your keyboard:

Your search results will appear in your browser window:

As you may have noticed, Google is set as the default search engine in Firefox. But you do have few other built-in search engines to choose from.

You can see your other options by clicking on the Google icon:

Let’s give Yahoo! a try.

After clicking on Yahoo!, you’ll notice that the Search Bar icon has changed:

Once again, type in the term you’d like to search for and hit the “Enter” button:

Your search results will once again appear; this time using the Yahoo! search engine.
