Just start typing the bookmark name and you’ll notice it appear in the drop-down box below the address bar.

You can verify that it is a bookmark by the yellow star (and tag name) that appear on the right-hand side of the address bar.

You can also search by tags.

Once again, just type the tag name into the address bar, and all of your bookmarks (with that tag) will appear in the drop-down box.

This feature does not work with folder names…only the name of the bookmark, or its tag(s).

This extension allows you to adjust the permission settings for each of your bookmarks. You can enable/disable the following settings: Images, Javascript, Redirects, Plug-ins and Subframes.

To adjust the permissions, just open your bookmarks in the sidebar and right-click on one of them.

Then choose “Properties” from the context menu:

The Properties window will open.

In the screenshot below, I’ve highlighted where you will find the permissions:

By default, the permission settings will be “As is”. You can then enable or disable whatever you wish.

Remember, when you change the permissions, you are only doing so for that particular bookmark. If you would like different settings for your other bookmarks, you must go into their properties one-by-one.

Read it Later is a Firefox Extension.

You can download it from the extension developer’s website.

This extension gives you the ability to easily save interesting articles for later reading. You can then quickly locate your saved articles at a later date.

After installing the extension, a message will appear asking you to drag-n-drop the Read it Later toolbar buttons:

Clicking on the “OK” button will open up the Customize Toolbar window:

Locate the “Read Later” and “Reading List” buttons.

Left-click and drag each one to your toolbar:

When you are on a webpage that you’d like to save for later, click on the “Read Later” button on your toolbar.

In this example, I’m going to save an article titled, “Save Money with Amazon Subscribe & Save”.

After clicking the “Read Later” button, a red checkmark verifies that the page has been saved:

Use the same icon’s drop-down menu to add the article to your favorite bookmarking services:

What if you change your mind, or end up reading the article right now? In this case, just click on the icon with the red checkmark to remove the article from your saved list.

When you’re ready to go back to your saved article(s), just click on the “Reading List” button and your articles list will appear:

If you would like to open all of the articles in separate tabs, choose “Open all of reading list in tabs” from the same menu.

You can also customize this extension in the “Options” section:

So where are all of these articles stored?

They’re stored locally on your own computer. In fact, if you look in your Bookmarks, you’ll notice a folder named “Read it Later.” This is where all of your saved articles are stored:

Let’s place a couple of Dog Ears on a CyberNet News article. To do so, you would do a keyboard/mouse combination of Shift + Left Click. You’ll notice a Dog Ear appear above the text with the Number 1 inside of it:

To place another Dog Ear, go to another section on the webpage and hit Shift + Click again. This time, the Dog Ear will have a Number 2 inside of it:

You can place as many Dog Ears as you’d like. The Dog Ears are saved locally on your computer. However, in order for them to be saved, you need to be running Firefox 2.0 and up. If you’re unsure which version you have running, click on this link and I’ll show you how to check it.

You can close this CyberNet article and when you return, the Dog Ears will be right where you left them. Let’s assume that this is what you do. When you return, how do you know where your Dog Ears are located?

It’s actually quite simple. Just click on the Dog Ears icon located in your status bar. It’ll take you to the first Dog Ear on the page. Click on the icon again and it will take you to the second Dog Ear…and so on…

OK…so we have 2 Dog Ears on a CyberNet News article. Now let’s add a Dog Ear to a totally different site…say an article from TechCrunch:

So now we have 2 Dog Ears on a CyberNet article, and 1 on a TechCrunch article. How do we keep track of them all?

Well, this extension has a nice feature that allows you to see all of the sites that have Dog Ears on them. Just right-click on the Dog Ears icon in your status bar and click Show Sidebar:

In the sidebar, you’ll see a listing of all the sites that have Dog Ears on them. Click on the site, and it will open up in your Firefox browser window:

There are several ways to delete Dog Ears. You can Shift + Click on each individual one, or you can remove them in bulk by right-clicking on the site in the sidebar and choosing “Delete”:

This extension allows some customization. Right-click on the Dog Ears icon in your status bar and choose “Options”:

Here are your options:

Each bookmark is displayed as a favicon with the name (in text) on the right.

This format tends tends to take up a lot of space, and your bookmarks toolbar can get really crowded if you have lots of bookmarks. The Smart Bookmarks Bar extension tries to take care of the space issue by reducing everything down to just the favicon.

After installing this extension, your Bookmarks Toolbar will look a bit different:

As you can see, the text is gone. This allows you to fit many more bookmarks on your toolbar.

Don’t worry if you forget where the favicon is pointing. Just mouseover it to find out:

This extension has several options that you can customize to your liking:

If you know where each of the favicons is pointing, and you’re not worried about forgetting, just uncheck the box labeled “Show bookmarks names on mouseover.”

The more bookmarks you have, the less space you may want in between each favicon. The amount of space can be adjusted in the “Bookmarks spacing” section.

This extension is a great space saver…Enjoy!

You’re about to bookmark a website.

Before doing so, did you ever think to yourself: “Have I already bookmarked this?”

Well, the Bookmark Duplicate Detector will answer that question for you.

Let’s say you’d like to bookmark the Get Firefox website (http://www.GetFirefox.com). As soon as you click “Bookmark This Page” in your browser, the Bookmark Duplicate Detector goes to work.

If you’ve bookmarked Get Firefox in the past, the following message box will appear:

The message alerts you to the fact that the website has already been saved. It also tells you where the bookmark has been saved. In the above case, it’s in Bookmarks > Chris > Firefox.

This does not mean you can’t save duplicate bookmarks. If you’d like two copies, just click on the “OK” button.

The “Move” button allows you to move your original bookmark to a different location.

The “Cancel” button closes the message box and leaves you with your original bookmark only.

The Bookmark Duplicate Detector allows addition configuration, which can be found in its Options window:

Under the “Duplicate” tab, clicking on the “Search for duplicates” button will search your current bookmarks for duplicates. If any are found, you will be given the option of deleting them:

Under the “Backup” tab, you can find the location of the Firefox bookmarks file on your computer. You can then change this location, restore it to the default location, or export it:

Let’s say that you have a bunch of related tabs open at one time and you’d like to bookmark all of them for later viewing. You can bookmark one at a time, or you can use the “Bookmark All Tabs” option.

To watch a video on how to bookmark all tabs, click on the “Play Video” button below. Or, scroll down for step-by-step instructions with screenshots:

Step-by-Step Instructions with Screenshots

In our example, we’ll have 3 tabs open (NHL.com, NBA.com, and NFL.com):

To save all 3 pages at once, you want to go to the top of your browser and click on Bookmarks > Bookmark All Tabs (or, on your keyboard, you can type Ctrl + Shift + D):

You will then be asked to name this group of tabs. Since the 3 tabs that we have open are all sports related, we’ll name this group of tabs “Sports”:

Click “OK.”

You can now find your group of tabs by going back to the top of your broswer and clicking on “Bookmarks.” You’ll notice the “Sports” folder listed with the 3 saved tabs inside of it:

In “Bookmark a page,” I pointed out how you can easily create a bookmark for later viewing. However, after some time, you may notice that you’ve saved so many pages that locating your bookmark becomes very hard.

Luckily, you can create custom folders for your bookmarks. In other words, all of your baseball and football links could be placed in a folder that you call “Sports;” all of your TV and Movie links could be placed in a folder that you call “Entertainment,” and so on.

To watch a video on creating custom folders for bookmarks, click on the “Play Video” button below. Or, scroll down for step-by-step instructions with screenshots.

Step-by-Step Instructions with Screenshots

Let’s say you want to bookmark the page NFL.com. But instead of placing this bookmark in the default “Bookmarks” folder, you’d like to create your own folder called “Sports.”

Follow the steps that I pointed out in “Bookmark a page,” until you reach the following screen:

Click on the button located to the right of the “Create in” drop-down menu. You will then see the following:

Click on the “New Folder” button.

Type in the name of your custom folder, and if you wish, you can type a description. In our example, the name of the new folder is “Sports.”

Then click “OK.”

As you can see above, your custom folder has been created. Click “OK” again.

Now, when you go up to “Bookmarks” at the top of your browser, you’ll see that your bookmark has been saved in your custom made folder.

Now let’s say you want to save another site to your custom folder. In our example, we’ll save the Major League Baseball site to our “Sports” folder.

Once again, we follow the steps laid out in “Bookmark a page,” until we get to the following:

This time, you hit the “Create In:” drop-down menu, and choose the folder that you’d like to save your bookmark in.

You now know how to create custom folders, and how to save new bookmarks inside them.

Step-by-Step Instructions with Screenshots

To bookmark a page, click on Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page at the top of your browser.

You can also hit Ctrl+D. In either case, a pop-up window will ask you to name the page that you would like to save, and it will ask you which folder you’d like to save it in.

As you can see in the image below, the name of the page that we’d like to save is called “Firefox – Rediscover the Web” and we are saving it in the default “Bookmarks” folder.

When finished, click the “OK” button:

You just saved your first bookmark!

Click on the “Bookmarks” link at the top of your browser once again, and you’ll see the page that you saved listed below:

Now you can access that page, and any other that you choose to bookmark, at any time.
