Downloads in Tab is a Firefox Extension.

You can download it from the Firefox Add-Ons site.

Normally, when downloading a file, the Firefox Download Manager will open in a new window. Here is an example below:

 

 

However, you may not want a separate window to open.

If this is the case, you have several options. You can try the Download Statusbar extension, or you give the “Downloads in Tab” extension a try.

With the “Downloads in Tab” extension, your Download Manager will open up in a new tab. Instead of opening in a separate window, this new tab will open in your current window:

 

 

Let’s take a look at the Options Window:

 

 

As you can see, the option to open downloads in a new window is still available. Just check the box labeled “Show the Downloads window when downloading a file.”

You also have the option of not having a downloads window at all. Just uncheck the box labeled “Open tab automatically at start of download.”

If you leave it checked, your downloads will open automatically in a new tab.
