Download Statusbar

Download Statusbar is a Firefox Extension.

You can download it from the Firefox Add-Ons site.

The Download Statusbar extension takes the information provided by the Firefox Download Manager and presents it in the browser Statusbar (as opposed to in a pop-up window).

Let’s look at an example:

Say you’d like to download OpenOffice. Here is a screenshot of the transfer using Download Statusbar:

In the above screenshot, you’ll notice the name of the file along with two numbers on the right-hand side:

  • The top number is the speed of the download in progress (in this example 102.1 KB/sec).
  • The bottom number is the amount of time left for the download to complete (in this example 16 min. 38 sec.).

Hovering your mouse over the download will produce a pop-up tooltip that provides even more information:

Right-clicking on the download will give you the following options:

You can even have multiple downloads in progress at the same time. In the example below, we’ve added Paint.NET:

Finally, even though this is a simple and straightforward extension, it does allow for quite a bit of customization. Here are the screenshots of Download Statusbar’s options window:

As you can see, under the “Virus Scan” tab, you can have your Anti-Virus program scan downloads when they are completed….A handy tool!
