Firefox Download Manager

When downloading a file from the Internet, Firefox provides a separate window called the “Download Manager” to keep you up to date on the progress of the transfer.

Let’s say you want to download a software application…For this example, we’ll download OpenOffice.

Let’s go through the information provided by the Download Manager:

In the top-left corner, you’ll see how much (in percentage terms) has already been downloaded to your computer. A green progress bar is provided to show you in visual terms.

Under the progress bar, you’ll see in numerical terms how much has been downloaded, the speed of the download, and how much time remains:

You can also Pause or Cancel the download while it is in progress:

The Download Manager also shows where the file is being downloaded on your computer:

Now let’s add another download. Let’s add Paint.NET.

As you can see below, the Download Manager will keep track of multiple downloads in the same window:

When your downloads are complete, you’re given several options:

  • You can Open the file right from the Download Manager window.
  • You can Remove the file from the Download Manager window.
  • You can click the Clean Up button to removes all files from Download Manager window.

***Note*** Clicking on Remove or Clean Up does not remove the file from your computer.
