Bookmark Duplicate Detector

Bookmark Duplicate Detector is a Firefox Extension.

You can download it from the developer’s website or the Firefox Add-Ons site.

You’re about to bookmark a website.

Before doing so, did you ever think to yourself: “Have I already bookmarked this?”

Well, the Bookmark Duplicate Detector will answer that question for you.

Let’s say you’d like to bookmark the Get Firefox website (http://www.GetFirefox.com). As soon as you click “Bookmark This Page” in your browser, the Bookmark Duplicate Detector goes to work.

If you’ve bookmarked Get Firefox in the past, the following message box will appear:

The message alerts you to the fact that the website has already been saved. It also tells you where the bookmark has been saved. In the above case, it’s in Bookmarks > Chris > Firefox.

This does not mean you can’t save duplicate bookmarks. If you’d like two copies, just click on the “OK” button.

The “Move” button allows you to move your original bookmark to a different location.

The “Cancel” button closes the message box and leaves you with your original bookmark only.

The Bookmark Duplicate Detector allows addition configuration, which can be found in its Options window:

Under the “Duplicate” tab, clicking on the “Search for duplicates” button will search your current bookmarks for duplicates. If any are found, you will be given the option of deleting them:

Under the “Backup” tab, you can find the location of the Firefox bookmarks file on your computer. You can then change this location, restore it to the default location, or export it:
