The “Open a new tab” button

As I pointed out in “How to create a tab,” you can create new tabs in Firefox by either clicking on File > New Tab, or by hitting Ctrl + T.

There’s actually an even faster way to open new tabs: the “Open a new tab” button.

By default, this button does not appear on your Firefox browser’s interface. However, you get this button by following some simple steps:

First, at the top of your browser click on View > Toolbars > Customize:

A pop-up will appear on your screen with a bunch of buttons inside of it. You can drag-and-drop any of these buttons into your browser toolbars.

We are looking for the “New Tab” button:

Drag this button up to the toolbar that you would like to place it in. You’ll see a vertical black bar that will indicate where the button will be placed:

Release your left mouse button to drop the “Open a new tab” button into place.

Click “Done” on the pop-up screen and your “Open a new tab” button is now ready for use:

You can now open tabs quicker than ever!
